This PATRICIA S. is apparently not the first MSC-vessel. On the MSC website www.mscgva.ch there is a photo of a MSC PATRICIA. This ship is a much smaller ship and was probably bought in 1970 as the first vessel.

MSC had a lot of old cargo liner types in the 1970s and 1980s, so this one is unlikely to have been the first.

Pica
normally those are boarded by the crew when lowered to the next lower deck or even lower. There is a special kind of blocks (in german bei-holer) which pulls the boat tight to the deck and boarding is then easy. The trick was to release it again , fwd/aft at the same time. But they are not high then nowadays on big boxer or passenger veesels
the construction is different but the princip the same

Hi Mike,
nice shot and nice ship. No doubt. What makes me thinking is the arrangement of the lifeboats. Skyhigh next to the funnel. Dutch cargo vessel of the same generation have the same arrangements. How would they be lowered safely in an emergency situation?
