I can confirm she is still in Chatham Dock - I went there yesterday a took a couple of rather poor photographs of her through a mesh fence and pouring rain. She should be in a warmer climate but it was good to see her. Barry

Capt Ted, I don't know what the running costs are but the charter fee is €455,000 per week! www.camperandnicholsons.com/yacht-charter/christina-o-508/
Does anyone know if she is still in Chatham? AIS was working a couple of weeks ago but does not seem to be now.

She isn't 'Dead', she is laid up, in Chatham I believe.
For a yacht that is available on the charter market I'd have thought she would have been somewhere in the Mediterranean. But then again, why was she in the West India Dock last year, open to the public. That can have hardly been a money-making venture?
Samson46, we are obviously of totally different mindsets. This yacht has more grace and beauty than any number of those over-blown yachts so beloved of the Russian new rich.

Fantastic photo, of a beautiful ship. One question, if the photo was captured on April 11, 2012, when and where was her demise. She is "dead" according to the records here. Just wondering

look at it the other way,,how much of those new yachts you think will be around in another 60-70 years,,like this one
Personally I don,t think much of them. However I like special the diversity of these ships

Not a bad looker but obviously a relic from a bygone age. To my mind, the accolade "the most beautiful" is a bit OTT

Yes Bendt, I knew the story about the bar stools and when I went aboard the yacht I went into that bar and saw the legendary bar stools.
I never imagined when I posted this photo onto the site that it would have generated so many views and so much interest and comment. I am surprised that some of you were unaware of it and had not even seen pictures of it before. So I am very pleased that just this one picture has helped widen people's knowledge. Also, thanks to those who have added their memories and stories. For me that day last April will remain very special, the day that I went aboard Christina O.

It's hard to believe that this opulant yacht began life as humble wartime frigate HMCS Sturmont! mrdot.

Hello Clive, fantastic looking lines in the ship, here's a little funny story from the ship with a link to a picture of the bar.

The ship served during the war under the name HMCS Stormant and was part of the D-day. The stinking rich Greek, Onassis bought the ship for $ 34,000 and renovated it for 4 million. dollars.

Down in the bar, you can therefore get a drink on chairs upholstered in foreskin from a minke whale (also called herring beater - and there are probably more minke whales that have put crazes). There has Winston Churchill had a beer with JFK in 1957.

The article is translated from this link there are only in Danish

First time I see a picture of this yacht. I have read about Onassis, Callas, Jackie Kennedy and all these affairs and stuff, and I have read about some things occured onboard the yacht, but never saw a photo until now :-)

Yes, Onassis really knew how to hob-nob!

Don,t know where you live, the country I mean, but ever heard of Jackie Onassis, the widow of John Fitzgerald Kennedy the assasinated president of the US ?,,she married when widowed, a few years later Aristoteles Onassis, the then richest man of the world (I believe) and of course she was regarded as so called "Trophy wife"

Onassis had her converted from a Canadian frigate in 1954

Back in my days at sea..it was said that the big O would pay his crew by gathering them on the foredeck and throwing a fist full of cash from the bridge..and as sport for his guests..watch the toughest take all the cash..so the seagulls said !!!!!!

The ex Onassis yacht CHRISTINA was completely refurbished, as it is today, at shipyard Viktor Lenac, Rijeka, Croatia beginning 2000s for the Greek businessman and owner of this yacht, now late, John Paul Papanicolaou.
The now as it is yacht was then renamed CHRISTINA O.

: I met & knew late John Paul very well ... he was a real giant; he was a man of abt 135 kgs weight, almost 2 meter of height, with deep & loud voice like a ship's horn and cigar in the mouth 24 hours daily!

Please excuse my ignorance here but why would it be one of the most famous yachts in the world ? I know nothing about these types of vessels however she does look very elegant.

Cheers, Dan.
