Description:

Berthed at Pyrmont, Sydney Harbour mid 1980,s
Originally build as a general cargo ship by Paris Commune Shipyard in Poland. She was launched in 1966 and purchased by the Guangzhou Ocean Shipping Co. Ltd. a subsidiary of COSCO and named as Chang Ning. In 1970's, it was decided to convert her into an oceanographic research ship in support of a Chinese project to develop its own intercontinental ballistic missile. Conversion was completed in 1972. She was later in service, reportedly as a weather atmospheric monitoring ship.

A superb and probably unique photograph - many thanks for posting - from 1976 she was operated by the South Sea Branch of the State Oceanic Administration, Guangzhou, with Equasis indicating that she was only recently scrapped
