Thanks for the info - I just added a stern view of the vessel, which shows on the aft deck a nice civil car - So maybe, it's really not so formal on bord... ;-)

A small hydrographic vessel pr.19910, as mostly whole hydrographic business in Russia belongs to Navy, the vessel is an auxiliary, civilian crew.

Hi Rascala

There have over the years been many, many instances of different translations being used on bridge name-boards.....also varistions with Dmitriy, Vasiliy (with or without the second 'i'. etc.

Thanks for your comments. I'dont know, where this IMO number cames from. A classification as a Naval auxilliary makes some sense. In the Internet she is named as "Project 19910" as well. @ Dr. Allan Ryszka-Onions: Regarding the translation from Cyrillic:
You are absolutely right, but look at the top of the roof on the picture: She is labelled "VAIGACH"... ;-)

Nice photo Rascala, look forward to more...........

As far as I can see, Vaigach is classified as a Naval auxilliary, not a commercial vessel, and therefore would not have an IMO number.

Also, with other vessels of this name, the usual western transliteration from Cyrillic is Vaygach

Hi Rascala, answering to your question : EQUASIS states that 6134945 is not a valid IMO number. GROSSTONNAGE also " it cannot be an IMO number,it doesn´t respect the numerical rules of IMO numbers".
For that numerical rules you can see here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IMO_number

Dear Colleagues, thanks for you positive comments about the quality of my picture of the Vaigach. You make me very happy! Regarding the IMO number: I did not fill in this number - the system added the number automatically (why ever?) It was interesting: Initially, when choosing the drop down menu "search photo" (before uploaded the photo): The Vaigach was an option, but just with the message "no photo" - I had no other information about the vessel. Just by consulting the mentioned homepage I learned more about the vessel (dimensions): http://www.nobel-shipyard.ru/en/maloe-gidrograficheskoe-sudno-vajgach-proekt-19910.html - Why do you know, that the number is invalid? – I’m rather new on this business – so I would like not to cause any troubles, but maybe anyone can help me! In any case, this ship should have a MMSI, when navigating on the coastline? Looking forward to your answers.

Hi Marc, welcome to Shipspotting.com. A really fine picture for a start and obviously a little mystery, too.

Cheers,

Dear Colleagues - my first picture at shipspotting.. Maybe I have catched a special Russian ship: There are not a lot of information. MMSI/IMO unknown. I got some background information on: http://www.nobel-shipyard.ru/en/maloe-gidrograficheskoe-sudno-vajgach-proekt-19910.html The survey vessel seems to be in service for the Russian Government. The crew was not in uniform and there was no AIS signal on our display. It's difficult for me to get an overview about the Russian rules of using AIS and other identification systems - If I have got any further informatin, please let me know. I would be very happy (some more pictures in stock).
