You're right, Ste.,She's 39 years old...Why Not..Indeed? 39 is pretty old for any ship these days.
But at a time when we are encouraged to use "energy saving light bulbs" ......seems odd that so many ships in good condition are scrapped...at huge energy costs & others are built at even greater energy costs/impact on the planet etc ......

Why not? They're scrapping even vessels that are 20 years younger than this one.
In this case - Ionian Sky's class with Bureau Veritas has been withdrawn since 8th February 2012 for the transfer of class to Polish Register of Shipping and was suspended from the latter due to overdue Survey since 16. November 2012.
In short - it looks like Aliaga!
