Hamburg Süd celebrated double christening of CAP SAN NICOLAS and CAP SAN MARCO at Hyundai H.I, first of ten high reefer capacity units of the new 'Cap San'-class, of which six are owned and four chartered. Nominal slot capacity of 9,814 TEU with 2,100 reefer plugs, they are the world's largest reefer vessels. The ten new ships are wide-beam units of 124,500 tdw on 14m draft, 332m lenght with a beam of 48.2m allowing to stow 19 rows on deck. Their overall dimensions also make them eligible for future Panama Canal transits, although not at full load. Designed for a commercial speed of 21 knots, which is slower than most current ships of this size.

Thanks for comments.
Speaking of colours, an unholy idea crossed my mind: if merger talks resume, will the new company's (Hamburg-Lloyd or Hapag-Sud) vessels be striped black/orange? :)

I'm not the biggest fan of container ships, but this is a beautiful shot. I'd actually like to see Hamburg Sud buy many more container ships ; their colours really are the smartest. Paint anything in Hamburg Sud colours and it will look twice as good, such a nice change from bilious blue. I like the way the Satnav dome is painted red too ! Pity they couldn't quite match the colour though..

Thanks Cornelia, Denis and Jens. I really just happened to be there at the right moment, but the vessel was still a bit far away...
