Tug JUDY MORAN was never the MARY TURECAMO. She was built in 1973 by the McDermott Shipyard, Morgan City, La. as Hull # 177. http://www.tugboatinformation.com/tug.cfm?id=632. There were three MARY TURECAMO's. The first was built in 1957 by John E, Matton & Sons, Inc., Cohoes, N.Y. as RALPH E. MATTON. She was a canal tug with a retractable pilothouse http://www.tugboatinformation.com/tug.cfm?id=1880, The second MARY TURECAMO was built by the Matton Shipyard, Cohoes, N.Y. (now owned by Turecamo)in 1972. http://www.tugboatinformation.com/tug.cfm?id=1867. She was chartered for 10 years to Texaco, Inc., after suffering an engineroom fire as MARY TURECAMO. She was completely refurbished, & renamed TEXACO CAPELLA. The charter expired in 1982, she was returned to Turecamo, & renamed JOHN TURECAMO. The final MARY TURECAMO was built in 1982 by the Matton Shipyard, and was the last tug ever built by that yard. This is the reason that the previous MARY TURECAMO built in 1972 didn't retain her original name. The last MARY TURECAMO, http://www.tugboatinformation.com/tug.cfm?id=1881 as well as the JOHN are presently in service. Turecamo sold out to Moran Towing Corp. in 1998.
