Description:

This photograph was taken in 1956, exact date unknown, and shows the F.T.Everard coaster Formality passing the Rowhedge Ironworks Ltd yard on the River Colne at Rowhedge, Nr Colchester, Essex.
MV Formality started life as an “Empire F” ship, one of a number of coastal cargo vessels produced during the war for the Ministry of War Transport. Named Empire Favourite she was built by Goole Shipbuilding & Repairing Ltd, Goole and was launched in 1944. FT Everard apparently managed several ships of that type on behalf of the Ministry of War Transport. After the war, they purchased some of them and renamed them with the familiar Everard nomenclature, names ending in “ity”. She was eventually scrapped sometime in the 1960-70’s.
