The tug YANKEE was built in 1942 by Higgins Industries, New Orleans LA. She was one of a series of 10 50-foot steel tugs delivered to the U.S.Army, but does not appear to have been a standard Army design, so may have been originally ordered for the Army Corps of Engineers or a commercial owner. This one served as ST 205, but was sold surplus soon after the War, first working for United Construction Company of Long Beach, then Todd Shipyards of Los Angeles, and upon closing of that yard in 1991, she became the property of the Port of Los Angeles, who continue to use her to move equipment within the harbor.
