Hi Phil, I said I reserve my judgement .I did not say the cause of these mishaps was any way due to the design of the ships, I know that safety is first class on the more renowned companies, and I will grab the opportunity to get on a cruise on these companies vessels but certain companies which I will not mention here I will give it a wide berth.Regards and the best of seasons wishes to you Phil.

"Spate of mishaps" Emmanuael?

I guess you're referring to the "Costa Concordia" (human error) and a contained fire on a Carnival ship, which would have spread and destroyed the whole ship had it not been a modern, SOLAS2010 vessel

Pica, those are my exact opinions.I also did a cruise on one of these modern cruise liners, and yes though I can say from a view of a shipspotter (and an ancient one at that) the old classic ones had a more pleasing design, the modern giants offer the ultimate in comfort etc. As to safety at sea ,after the spate of mishaps on these modern giants I reserve my judgement.Thank you for your comments.

Hi,
it seems a never ending subject: The beauty of the cruise oldies and the new horrible design of the newbuildings.
I ve done quite a few cruises in recent years and I must say
if you sit on your balcony on a floating apt block you dont see her lines but you enjoy there ample offer of entertainment, gyms etc.
As a former seaman almost all my working life I can see the beauty in "classic" cruise vessel like "Ausonia" , "Kungsholm" or others of the same epoca but I also value the progress onboard modern vessel and not only what comfort is concerned but as well as better safety standards.
Hoping not having hurt anybodies shiplover heart I wish the cruise industry and there crews and passengers a good winterseason....

Hi Captain Ted.you and me and a lot of shipspotters see it quite defferntly from the thousands of the cruising public, they don't care for the looks of the ship but rather for what she offers in way of comfort ,price etc. So cruising ship companies alas tend to take more of their comments than ours, monetary gain is their aim.And the trend looks that in future it will continue towards these "floating apartments blocks" as Mr.DOT likes to call them.

One has to have a lot of FANTASIA to see still a ship

He... he... I still don't believe Mr.DOT , of you posting a positive (or quasi positive) comment on these floating apartment blocks.Well there is always a first time for everything. Thank you for all the positive remarks towards my posted pics, regards.
