This vessel was originally built as THERIOT OFFSHORE II by Todd Shipyards, Seattle as one of six 1,258 GT OSVs for Theriot Offshore. Later being renamed MAGNUS SEA. In 1988 she was lengthened and converted to a factory trawler for Glacier Fish Company of Seattle.

Of her five sisters, all were also ultimately converted:

THERIOT OFFSHORE I (IMO 7391264), later SCOTOIL 1, MAUREEN SEA, converted 1988 to factory trawler ALMIRANTE MAXIMIANO.

THERIOT OFFSHORE III (IMO 7391288), later SCOTOIL 3, CLAYMORE SEA, converted in 1988 to factory trawler, now VULKAN KSUDACH.

THERIOT OFFSHORE IV (IMO 7391290), later SCOTOIL 4, NORDIK EXPRESS.

THERIOT OFFSHORE V (IMO 7391305), later SCOTOIL 5, ARCTIC FJORD.

THERIOT OFFSHORE VI (IMO 7391317), later SCOTOIL 6, HEATHER SEA, converted in 1989 to factory trawler, now Russian research vessel.
