That's a great shot Phil, full of interest. And an expert manoeuvre particularly for a vessel in the Training Ships category.

In this place, with those colors on the ship and colors of the surroundings, this is a very good picture, where details are very visible. It would be good if every picture hade these qualities.

Thanks for your comments Jens and Clive. I'm fortunate to be in an ideal position to capture ships in this part of the Thames. It's just a shame that there's not more of them.

Hi Ken, I'm pretty sure that's the reason as even the Waverley has to have a tug to assist her off of Tower Pier, albeit a very small one.

Wow!!!! What a super photo! Perfect light and the amazing backdrop. A really great photo. Back in the mid-late 1980s when I did my first Hurtigruten trip (aboard Nordstjernen) I thought these vessels were awful, we got to go aboard some of them. Now, time has passed and I feel much better disposed towards them.

Hi Phil,

I think you have hit the nail on the head I was thinking the same way with these smaller vessels, they do of course still have Tugs for the larger vessels and Warships.
Probably the Act of Parliament has been revoked for the modern age.

Ken

Hi John & Shaun - thanks for your comments. Yes, I'm surprised about the lack of a tug though I have seen others come through without one - "Fram" for example. Perhaps it's because they have both bow and stern thrusters.

Great shot with some of London's fantastic architecture as a backdrop!

Hi Phil
i would have thought they would have a tug in attendance
years ago it was an act of parliment that a steam tug be stationed at Tower bridge 24hrs a day in case of emergency

john
