Thanks Ken for the info. It was just something that struck me as unusual as I've never seen an IMO on a navy vessel before.

Just to add to the confusion the UK website shipais quotes St. Albans as having an IMO of 8949721, which seems to be a valid IMO, but obviously is not listed on Equasis.

I just checked IHS Sea-Web and the IMO number is not recognised!

Many Warships & RFA Vessels were issued with IMO Numbers but they are not generally used, the Pennant Number is the equivalent for Warships.
As far as this Website is concerned if an IMO number is known then it will be given or added to an uploaded photograph but for search purposes it is advisable to use the Pennant Number.

Why is it that a military vessel like this has an IMO number, yet a frigate (as an example HMS ST ALBANS) has no number? I don't understand.
