This reminds me of a ship I was on that had a potted palm on the bridge. It was part of job of those on watch on the bridge to 'feed it' periodically. A box of plant food was provided for the purpose. However, the box of plant food was habitually stored on the same counter with the coffee, so you had to be careful, while making coffee during the night watches, that you didn't accidentally put plant food into the coffee machine instead of coffee grounds.
