I did a trip on the Otaki leaving UK Nov.1971.Arr.Dampier WA 3 Jan72.Discharged round coast to Sydney, crossed to Auckland to load.Left Wellington on 1st April for Hull.3 months on the coast,we were pretty shattered!Don't think the container ship boys could handle it!

Yes, Rick, the realisation that I took this photo 47 years ago is just a little bit frightening.

Keats was right: A thing of beauty is a joy for ever.
It may be an old cliché, but never was it truer.
In profile, picture perfect.
Nice work Bob...and only 47 years ago ;-)
Regards, Rick

They didn't look too bad with the Federal funnel, it was certainly much classier than the truly awful corporate effort inflicted on all the ships by P&O a few years later.

All the NZSC ships that survived to the late 1960s finished up with Federal S N Co funnel marks

Interesting to see this ship under Federal Steam Navigation colours, with a traditional New Zealand Shipping Co Ltd name.
