Description:

Maybe we have a bit of mystery here.
The name is not a problem, but it looks like this small ferry shares her IMO number (9199517) with an Indonesian ferry "Swarna Chakra", very different vessel. Wakanatsu, Japanese blog that I routinely use as a reference for all Japanese ships states this number as her IMO number.
So which one is correct?

SWARNA CAKRA is former Japanese RITSURIN MARU (1988) or one of three sisters. IMO stated for SWARNA CAKRA with Marinetraffic and other websites is wrong.

Thanks, David. As you can see, I have entered the IMO number, and her "Vessel Identification" field promptly changed to "Swarna Cakra"... :)

@rd77 - thank goodness for "original size" - at first glance I though the guy was brandishing a RPG.

This ship is without doubt the real IMO 9199517, and she clearly has not been renamed SWARNA CAKRA. Image 46 is the onboard shipbuilder's GA plan, showing Yard No. 623 and the correct tonnages/dimensions

Now to ID the real SWARNA CAKRA!

No matter what her real IMO number is, her funnel mark is the best I've ever seen :-)

Thanks for your comments.

So, the mystery deepens. :)

"Swarna Chakra" is a completely different ship, currently trading in Indonesia, while "New Izena" is parked at Nagasaki.

Bjorn's photo shows a smaller and older ferry with a similar name.

Japanese sites with photos of "New Izena" also wonder what's wrong with her IMO number...

OK, maybe one day we'll get to the bottom of this...

There looks to be similar confusion regarding the ferry SWARNA KARTIKI (IMO 9199505). Checking marinetraffic, the images show both a Indonesian-type ferry, and a more Japanese type bearing the former name of FERRY ZAMAMI.
Kind Regards, Kyle
