ABS has moulded beam 23.774m
IHS-Fairplay has moulded 23.780m, extreme 23.830m
Seaway have max 23.77m (78 ft.) beam for Welland

Extremities may not be at points affecting lock transit.
A true "Welland-Max"

At 216.42m loa she was comfortable inside the 225.5m limit.

I think Fleetmon has it wrong, looks like the actual beam is 23.7 meters.

Hi Bill,
I'm not into the Welland Canal locks, but I can count containers.
And I count only 9 containers wide which means 22.5 meters (in this picture as well in older pics), add a few centimters/decimeters and you'll stay within 23 meters.
So the 30 meter beam must be a typo, it's 23 meters.
Cheers,
Roy

Gentlemen Shipspotters, I have a question.
This vsl, with a 30 m beam, built in Sturgeon Bay WI,
had to make her delivery voyage in 1987 to the salty
waters of the eastern seaboard, in order to start her
container carrier life.....
How did they pass through the Welland Canal Locks
with her beam of THIRTY meters?
According to my knowledge, the max allowed beam is
about 23 meters.....?
Anybody???
Thanks, Capt.Bill

Hi MattyBoy,, MATSON, Inc. (formerly known as Matson Navigation Company) is a long-term (since 1882) important Name in the US merchant shipping.

: very nice and much pleasing shot, Kyle, of this containership which can not be seen on places other than the Pacific Ocean,
