Description:

Tanker CASTILLO DE LORCA (ESP / 1975-85 / 86339 gt / IMO8026581), at Suez Anchorage January 28th 1991.
I must say that I have some problems to understand the history of this tanker (jumboised, joined by part of ships themselves previouly jumboised, ...) Puzzle !!

She is visible lying on Chittagong beach, on Google Earth scene dated 08/04/2009, in position 22°25'19"N & 091°43'54"E
(her sister ship CASTILLO DE BELMONTE being beached not far, in position 22°28'26"N & 091°42'44"E).

I was talking about the first conversion only...in 1996 she got a new forepart, which originally had belonged to the Castillo de Lopera, who on her turn was the ex Castillo de Montearagon (7386996) a 1977 built turbine tanker, of which the tanker section was replaced with a bulk section in 1985. (The tanker section was scrapped). The resulting ship, so the OPERA, was cut again 1996, with the cargo section now going to the LORCA and the aft, turbine section scrapeed. I actually think that the plan was to have coal fired turbine powered coal carriers, but that hopelessly failed, but one can do a lot when you are the state ELCANO company..

Hi Pieter,
I am afraid it is more complicated. An article about this ship was edited by Marine News, but I cannot remember the issue date.

The new aft part, to which the IMO number refers, uses the cargo section of the original Castillo de Lorca, IMO 7386960. The stern section of the latter ship was grafted to a new forepart, made by Bazan (#189). If I am not mistaken the steam turbines were now fired by coal.
