Description:

This vessel was already shown here, but today I've caught her in the act of delivering the blocks for the first of the Maersk's "Triple E Mk. 2", assembling at the "Royal Dock No. 4" of Daewoo shipyard in Okpo. The whole procedure of unloading one huge block from the ship into the dock took maybe 10 minutes; this is the view together with the dock itself.

Well noted, David! :)

To answer Mike's question, the blocks still come from China - as the 'Passion's AIS shows her constant trading between Yantai and Okpo.

Also, I will now upload the overview of the yard, with 7 cylinder engine parts clearly visible (a frame box and two cylinder blocks).

Cheers

Vlad

Presumably E3/21 is Daewoo Yd 4302 (IMO 9778791)

Thanks for the info, Jan and Roy!
I thought that the smaller 7-cylinder engines will be used, because I've seen them floating around the yard (literally - on barges!), and could not quite pair them with other projects.
Anyway, looking forward to the time when they will grow big enough in the dock so I can take a meaningful picture of them - so, 10 or so days, I'd say... :)

Cheers

Hi Vlad,
The accommodation will be two (40ft) bays more fwd.
The lashing bridges will be higher.
And the hull will be slightly bulkier than the first series.
Cheers,
Roy

Vlad / Jan

If you compare the hull blocks of EEE no 21 (tbn MADRID MAERSK) to similar blocks of EEE units 1-20, you can already see quite a number of structural differences :-D You are right about the engines. The last ten units get the 7-cylinder variant, whereas the first 20 have the 8-cylinder variant of an otherwise compareable set of main engines.

Thanks for your comments. Jan, is one of the changes the use of smaller engines? By the blocks I've seen in the yard, they will retain the double engine layout.

Cheers

I think 'Blue' has pushed the red Mega Passion to the back (contrary to the picture).
And yes Jan there will be quite some changes.

Roy

>> . The new Triple E's will be the repeat of the "old" ones, so 400x59

Vlad / Jan

Yes and no. The loa and beam remain unchanged, but the ships no 21-30 will be different from units 1-20 in quite a number of ways :-)
