Description:
The remains of the steam sidewheel ferry GARDEN CITY are seen on the edge of Carquinez Strait at the ghost town of Eckley, California.
Built in 1879 by the Collyer Brothers Shipyard of New York, New York for use by the Southern Pacific Railroad, she remained in service until 1929 when she was retired and sold. She was then placed in use at a fishing resort at Eckley, where she remained in decaying condition until burning in a brush fire in 1983.
