Description:

Cunard owned, Salen operated and Glasgow registered reefer sailing Napier 12.5.82 with apples and pears for British supermarkets. She had been delivered in July 1973 as Cantaloup by the Norwegian Nylands shipbulder as part of a large group for the Israeli shipping group Island Fruit Reefers. The company had plans to become a major player in reefer shipping, but was struggling by the mid seventies with a large number of the fleet by then on charter to competitor Salen. When the company collapsed, Cunard acquired six of their British flagged fleet that lead to the company inheriting the unusual regsitry port Glasgow for the company. In the mid eighties, another shipping low cycle saw the collapse of the Salen Group, and the Cunard vessels earning poor rates or spending long periods idle. The ships were then sold to Greeks and left lay up at Birkenhead after August 1986, with Chartworld renaming the Carinthia to Pegasus. Later she became Star Light then Pelagos and was broken up at Alang in July 2000.
