@Captain Ted. I'm not sure what the Skandinavia F/Vs look like. These evolved after the open deck boats could'nt offer adequate protection to the fishermen in heavy seas and Winter conditions.

The shipyards on the Great Lakes began to enclose them. At first they only covered the fore section. Then they entirely enclosed them and built them to also be ice breakers (they needed to reach their nets in Winter)

The extra heavy steel in the bow was pitched like an ice breaker and they were powered like a tug. The name "fish tug" has been their name for over 100 years.

In the area I live there are many fishermen of Scandinavian heritage. Perhaps the idea arose from the boats they used in the old country.

I'm really curious what the Skandinavian boats look like.

@comfisher,, you mean in that area only, one can find in Skandinavia fishing vessels which can close off the deck area also by doors. Usually same size as this one,,never saw it on bigger.

These enclosed fish tugs are found only in the upper Great Lakes region. See more at http://www.fishtug.com/forums/index.php?sid=17f406ce57edd56c087aedee60eabfc7
