Description:
Chine Shipping Company's 1957 Henry Robb, Leith, built bulk carrier THACKERAY, which had been lengthened in 1966, is seen passing Battery Point exactly fifty years ago today, on Sunday 1st October 1967. She was inbound for Portishead Dock near Bristol with a cargo of phosphate rock from Boca Grande, Florida, from where she had sailed on 7th September.
Later: 1968 SHERWOOD - 74 NISYROS ERA
She arrived at Port Said from Huelva prior to 19.2.79 and remained idle there for several years. Miramar reports that by 1991 she was lying in the Great Bitter Lake and in 1999 deleted from Lloyd's Register, presumably having been broken up locally in Egypt.
