Description:

Charles Hill's 1966 Doxford & Sunderland built TORONTO CITY, on long term charter from Bibby Line which then held a majority share in their Bristol City Line, is seen passing Portishead for Avonmouth exactly fifty years ago, on 29th December 1967. She had sailed from Hampton Roads on 21st December, so taking just eight days to cross the Atlantic Ocean.

Builder: William Doxford, Sunderland, Yard number 875 with Clark/North Eastern marine(Wallsend) Sulzer 6RD76 Engine. 8 men died during the construction of the ship in 1966 when hydraulic oil mist from the Controllable pitch propeller system was ignited and exploded in the shaft tunnel.
