Hmmmm....Matty...if I understand you, those metal uprights (6) on port side and (6) on starboard side that look like hatch covers are what you are asking about? Your guess is as good as mine as to their purpose.

Great photo oldkayaker, taken from a bridge no doubt. I'm wondering what those vertical pieces of metal are on her deck. Are they placed to break any waves which might come across her deck?
