Description:

Bearing the funnel marking of the Waterman Steamship Company but owned by the Alcoa SS Co Inc, of New York, this WW2 standard type C2-S-AJ was built by North Carolina Shipbuilding Co, Wilmington in 1944, as hull no. 119 and with the name BLACK WARRIOR..
Renamed SOUTHLAND in 1947 and AMERICAN MARKETER in 1961, this ship sailed for United States lines until 1963, when the shipping arm of Alcoa (Aluminium Company of America) took her over.
The 8,186 grt/10,755 dwt vessel was propelled by two General Electric steam turbines which produced 6,000 shp and a speed of 15.5 knots.
In 1969 she became COLUMBIA OWL before going to breakers at Kaohsiung, Taiwan in March, 1971.
