Judge Sampson Ltd, who published this photo as a Judges postcard, tell me that it was published in 1920, and they would expect that the photo itself dated from 1919-20 (we already knew from Yvon's opening comment that it must have been before 1924).

This might be one of S.WILLIAM&COEs,BANN coasters ie
bannpride1936,bannrose1925,bannspur1921,banntrader1920.
funnel colors, style of vessel points that way.

If GOWERIAN photo must be before 1923 sale to Henry & McGregor, which had white bands on a black funnel.

Haven't found funnel colours of any of the other owners of these two.

Thanks Miraflores, could be, but the funnel is taller and slimmer, if we know the funnel colours of the owner (Philips) of Cardiff we can be sure.

The deck cargo looks like timber but at a closer look is seems more like crates, in those days there was quite a substantial traffic from France to the UK with fresh vegetables and fruit.

What is that large white building near the top of the picture?

A raised quarterdeck coaster ... she looks VERY similar to my GOWERIAN of 1921. I built an rc model of her a few years ago.

The photo should be taken before 1924 as the ferry THE MEW, on the opposite side, wasn't still modified to carry cars (roro).
