Monarch is the first ship that I've been aboard to hit the beaches, sorry to see her and Sovereign ending their days. I have fond memories aboard both of them in their RCCL days. Pioneers of the "mega ship" days, and much more elegant than most of today's newbuilds. So long old friends.

Yes a lot of ships ending their career before their time. Many more to come I fear. CMV fleet anyone? Plus a few more units from the various Carnival brands and perhaps Majesty OTS and Empres OTS, who knows. In fairness, in the "old days" of the ocean liners, a 25-30 years lifespan was not that strange. We have just been spoiled over the past few decades. However, we only have to go back to the 1970s to find the last mass cull of passenger ships.

Rd77...If I can just echo your word's, very very sad Indeed.

Out of all the vessel's that may well find themselves on the beaches at Alagia or Alang the Pullmantur Cruises fleet is the most upsetting.

The fact that the Pullmantur Cruises fleet of HORIZON, MONARCH and SOVEREIGN are being scrapped is totally heart breaking.

As you say, they could have had many more years in service especially as Pullmantur Cruises we're doing so well prior to the Coronavirus pandemic and they we're absolutely immaculately kept both externally and internally.

I'm afraid that many more vessel's will see a unintended similar fate including some of the now defunct CMV fleet 😥

The CARNIVAL FANTASY should be joining them soon as she is currently in the Mediterranean bound for Alagia.

Sad time's indeed for the entire cruise industry, an industry that I have been involved in for the last 38 year's and I'm currently seeking further employment which I haven't had much luck with so far!

I guess that I am waiting for some form of normality to resume but I'm afraid to say that it may well take several year's to do so and definitely won't be on the same scale as before the Coronavirus pandemic.

Beached this morning, Selim San has a few pics on his Instagram already (@captaimselim). Breaks my heart. In a normal situation, this ship would have carried on for at least another six years.
