Description:
The United States Training Ship TEXAS CLIPPER, a modified C3-S-A3 type built at Sparrows Point in 1944, is seen departing from Rotterdam.
She had served as a merchant marine training vessel with the Texas Maritime Academy at Texas A&M University at Galveston for 30 years beginning in 1965.
Prior to her service as a training vessel, TEXAS CLIPPER had served in World War II as an attack transport vessel named U.S.S. QUEENS. In 1948 she was converted into the transatlantic liner EXCAMBION, one of the quartet of ships referred to as the "4 Aces", operated by American Export Lines, serving Mediterranean ports from New York.
Following service as a training ship in 1996 TEXAS CLIPPER joined the Beaumont Reserve Fleet until 2006. She was then transferred to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department Artificial Reef Program to be turned into an artificial reef and was scuttled on 17th November 2007.
