Description:

Photographed at anchor off Apapa/Lagos on 4th January 1976 was MARYSTAR I, built at Nakskov as NORDKYN, launched in 1940 but not delivered until September 1945.

She had traded as the Greek owned ARETI S. between 1963 and 1974 when sold to Swiss Sea Shipping Services of Lugano.

MARYSTAR I had loaded a cargo of bagged cement at Civitavecchia, sailing on 7th July 1975 and arriving off Lagos on 25th July, berthing on 7th January 1976 and returning to La Spezia where she arrived on 23rd February 1976 for repairs.

MARYSTAR I finally arrived at Split on 1st April 1981 to be broken up.

Thanks for your comment. Most of the ships' lifeboats were used while waiting there to ferry crew members to and from shore. The image was cropped from the edge of a photo of another ship so is very low resolution and required some surgery with photoshop in the area of the bow. The anchor and anchor ball have probably been digitally lost in the process.

Looks like the boat drill in progress . I can not find
an anchor ball .Many vessels were kept in drift and stand by engine due to a lot of acts of piracy .
