''INS Brahmaputra (1957) was a Type 41, a Leopard-class frigate ordered for the Royal Navy as HMS Panther but transferred to Indian Navy and renamed Brahmaputra (F31) before launching in 1957. She was built by the Scottish shipbuilder John Brown & Company and completed in March 1958. INS Brahmaputra (F31) was the first new built modern radar equipped warship to be acquired by the Indian Navy in 1958. INS Brahmaputra (F31) was the first vessel of the name and served during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1965 and the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971. She was scrapped in 1986.''
