Description:
For many years the standard design Hakodate, Kanda and Imabari 28-32,000 dwt bulk carrier types have been the mainstay of the New Zealand log trade. The Imbari 28 was particularly succesful with near 200 of the design completed at the various Imabari Group yards in Japan, and this has now been succeeded / superceded by the 38,000 dwt version. Already over 100 of this bigger class have been completed since first appeared 10 years ago. Almost achieving the 100 milestone was the Berge Bulk log-fitted bulker Berge Ben Nevis, completed in February 2017, but this honour fell to her sister three months later. Now these vessels are part of larger vessel fleet carrying New Zealands log trade, with the old Imabari 28 class now only occasional participators. The Berge Ben Nevis is seen departing Napier after loading a part cargo.
