Marc, in French and Italian there is, go for instance to a site like "Cycling Cols" and many of the climbs are called ALPE something. In Dutch we would be inclined to delete the E at the end. We have no problem to call a single mountain an ALP, and as the chances that this ship will call in Rotterdam, rather than in Switzerland, are much greater, for us the name is perfectly clear.

Here in Switzerland - at the bottom of the "Alps" there is no singular form of the word "Alps" as a mountain... My understanding of the English word "ALP" is the same than in German "Alp" or "Alm": That's an "Alpine pasture" - May you know our famous little Swiss girl "Heidi" - she was living on an "Alp" with the grandfather "Alp-Öhi" 😉 - So, that's my interpretation... Kind regards from Switzerland 😘 - Marc

Vlad, I bet Evergreen will not accept that as the sole meaning...but I have learned a new thing this evening.

An animal of the horse family with a braying call, known for its hard working, but stubborn nature? Nothing wrong with that, I guess... :)

Pity that there is no edit option once a comment has been made. Just noted the second "is" in my first comment, where I should have written "a".

Lappino, may I suggest the EVER AS.

Thank you for your comments, Frank and Pieter.

I also think that Pieter's reasoning was behind her name - even as there's no such interpretation in the official way, at least not in wikipedia.

Evergreen was hard pressed to find a meaningful word with three letters starting with an "A"... :)

Cheers

Vlad
