COMMENT THIS PHOTO(2)
The intercept operation was called, rather unimaginatively, 'Blanco Brasil' - White Brazil.
The fishing boat (which does not have a known name or registration, apparently), is suspected to be of Brazilian origin, but the design & appearance is also common in the Southern Caribbean & Northern South American areas. These boats do share some general visual similarities with Far Eastern boats. Form follows function and all that.
This boat was tracked across the Atlantic by various international authorities until it reached a point some 500 kilometres south of Gran Canaria (the usual intercepting area) when the Spanish Guardia Civil, Aduanas & Policia Nacional stepped in to relieve them of their cargo.
