Description:

Electronic Intelligence gathering ship Kildin (SSV 512) is seen here entering the Baltic on 29 July 2022, en route to St. Petersburg. She was launched at the Stocznia Polnocna Shipyard, Gdansk, Poland (yard No. 861/13) back in 1969 and commissioned as a hydrographic survey vessel in 1970. Later that year she was converted to an intelligence ship. Kildin is reportedly armed with the SAM Strela system and 16 missiles. Originally, she is of the 'Moma' class of survey ships/buoy tenders, of which 29 vessels were built between 1967 and 1973. Of these, 9 vessels were converted as intelligence ships (project 861M) for the then Soviet navy.
