WELCOME TO SHIPSPOTTING.COM
Description:
Scrapped about 2002. Largest factory ship of her type in the world and the flagship of the Black Sea fishing fleet when into service 1971. Registered Ilyichevsk, Ukraine, with only one in class, she carried 14 plastic hulled trawler / seiners of the Nadezhda type in davits, these being equipped to fish by trawl, purse seine and electric fishing. These feeder vessels were directed to the fish shoals by a "spotter" helicopter, based onboard the Vostok. As a floating cannery and freezer vessel she had an output of about 150,000 cans and 200 tons of frozen fish per day as well as reducing all ofal to fishmeal onboard. With around 600 crew to look after she was equipped with a cinema, concert hall, club, library, shops, medical centre as well as living quarters and production deck so quite a ship! Intended to stay at sea for periods of up to 120 days. 26400gt and 225m loa she was eventually scrapped Aliaga / Turkey in 1997. Spent one summer season off Lerwick in the early 1990s during the klondyking years, but was without catchers at the time. Sadly never managed to get a good picture of her!
