@ shoreToShip.......
Re proposed deep water container terminal in Quebec City....I am not familiar with the Laurentia/Hutchison project. In regards to CN and Saint John, they have always serviced local port (via Moncton). It was actually CP Rail returning to Saint John after a 35 year absence. (CP sold off it's operations in the Atlantic region in the 1990's). In 2020 CP purchased the Central Maine & Quebec RR giving them greater access to eastern USA markets and Upper Canada/Mid USA (See below link).
https://www.cpr.ca/en/choose-rail/atlantic-gateway

Side bar: Since 2017 DP World operate terminal in Saint John (Taking over from Logistec Corporation).
Hutchison Ports and DP World are two of the largest terminal operators in the world, ranking 4 and 5 respectively in terms of global TEU volume.

Kind regards,
andre

@ shoreToShip...... In regards to Saint john, the port in final stages of a major expansion to their container terminal. Two new shore cranes recently arrived from Charleston, S.C..... Bodes well for future growth / increased container traffic.
PS: I am from Quebec originally. (Born in Quebec City many decades ago). I manage to return periodically and visit with friends living on the "Island"...

@Andrecas: maybe you have heard about it but there was supposed to be a deepwater container terminal project (called Laurentia) at the Port of Quebec City. It was proposed by Hutchison Ports Holdings in conjunction with Canadian National Railway. The project was cancelled and what I have heard is that CN decided to go to Saint John to start the project you just described where CN's trains will move containers to America and thus become a direct competitor to the Port of Montreal.

Typical river scene this time of year, with the ice and the "Pont de l'ile" in the background...! Very nice, "up close" shot...!

Thank you Andrecas. You seem quite familiar with Quebec City. This being said, you have found yourself quite the spotting location in Saint John, Canada. Very nice and a bit busier than here.
