She had served the German Navy between 1940 and 1945 as SPERRBRECHER 17 and was purchased by Franco Shipping (P.J.Caias & G.C.Mavroyalis) in 1961

For her penultimate voyage, from Chittagong to Calcutta in December 1971, she was escorted by the Indian Navy and soon thereafter arrived at Shanghai for breaking on 20 January 1972
