One of the crown jewels in Seattle's fleet of restored classic yachts, the Ted Geary-designed BLUE PETER is seen as the chariot of a portion of the University of Washington's band during the annual Opening Day Parade through the Montlake Cut.

Her name is a reference to the international maritime signal flag for the letter "P," blue with a white square, and the pays homage to the flag's traditional message that a vessel is about to proceed to sea.

During World War II, the yacht was taken over by the US Army and designated Q134. She was later transferred within the Army to the Corps of Engineers and renamed CANOL. In 1948, the Army disposed of the vessel, and she returned to civilian hands under her original name.
