Description:
Former Port Adelaide pilot boat ALERT seen in Devonport, Tasmania, Australia. 28/09/2023
ALERT is Devonport’s new pilot boat and is named after HMS Alert, the first vessel that navigator Matthew Flinders served on.
ALERT is constructed from E-Glass/epoxy (fibreglass) and is designed with the ability to self-right in the event of capsizing. Another feature of ALERT is a distinctive bulbous bow known as a “beak bow”. The “beak bow” reduces pitching and wave resistance - reportedly lessening fuel consumption by 30 percent.
