Marcus, that's definitely an ugly ship, but I just tracked down all her changes throughout her career - it's hilarious!
Initially: https://www.shipspotting.com/photos/1887723 notice she has stern access via 2 ramps there.
Then she got changes as how it's on your photo, with bridge widened, some decks added in the middle, side access at the bow added & center bow access with all those frames added as well - possibly done for service on certain route(s). Yet stern access removed - https://www.shipspotting.com/photos/128025 smooth stern.
Soon the center bow access & frames around it removed https://www.shipspotting.com/photos/571340 & stern access via ramp there returned https://www.shipspotting.com/photos/2605519

Unbelievable!

The Lübeck/Malmö Link were also very heavy ships in the past with a lot of draft. If you compare the ships at that time in Travemünde (rund year 2003). The Lübeck/Malmö Link had a draft 8.4m (L: 192.6 m x B: 27 m) and over 33.000 gt. The new Nils Holgersson at this time was the largest and brand new ferry in Travemünde with only 6.2 m draft (L: 190.7 x B: 29.5 m) comes over 36.000 gt. You can see how big and heavy the old "Panzer" were... :-D

You're absolutely right, Denis.
The Malmö Link and Lübeck Link have been heavily rebuilt.
They were called here "Der Panzer" (the tank) because they looked like a monster :-))
After they were sold, they were rebuilt again. Have a look here:
https://www.shipspotting.com/photos/816694
Now they had a stern ramp and the bow visor was removed.
