ECUADORIAN NAVY SHIP HUALCOPO TR61

As per https://www.defensa.com/ecuador/armada-ecuador-ya-opera-tr-61-hualcopo-depredador-buque-chino

On August 13, 2017, the Ecuadorian Navy intercepted the Chinese ship Fu Yuan Yu Leng 999 after passing through part of the Galapagos marine reserve. His illegal entry into the area had been alerted by a satellite system, and was subsequently intercepted by a coast guard boat.

At that time, Rear Admiral Darwin Jarrín, Commander of Naval Operations of the Ecuadorian Navy, reported that the Fu Yuan Yu Leng 999 had been delivered after its capture to the Real Estate Management Service of the Public Sector, Inmobiliar, when it was found that it was transporting illegally more than 300 tons of sharks from different endangered species. This vessel did not carry out fishing work, but was in charge of collecting the species that were captured by the almost 260 fishing boats that roamed the waters of the Galapagos Islands.

On October 16, 2017, this Chinese ship, 96 meters long, 16 meters wide and with an average draft of 6 meters, was placed at the disposal of the Ecuadorian Navy after a 10-year agreement between it and Inmobiliar. It was baptized TR-61 Hualcopo, but the Ecuadorian Navy had not been able to use it to satisfaction due to problems related to its maintenance and operation, and the intention was even expressed to be returned to “Inmobiliar”, after the Navy had invested more than 2 million dollars in the operation of some onboard equipment, such as its electrical generator, which needs to be in operation to avoid deterioration, consuming 200 gallons of fuel daily.

After more than 2 years and obtaining the resources for its maintenance and operation, on June 16, 2020 it accidentally entered the ASTINAVE floating dock in Guayaquil, suffering loss of steering and causing damage to a service dock, but without affecting the staff. Finally, after almost a month of work, it was delivered fully operational to the Ecuadorian Navy on July 13.

Hello Tomislav,

This is not the INGENIERO GEORGE SLIGHT MARSHALL (63) alongside the BAE HUALCOPO (TR-61). The pennant number displayed is 67 which would be the Chilean LAUTARO (IMO 7325538) which was transferred to Ecuador on 28 November 2022 and renamed BAE IMBABURA (RA-72) on 4 July 2023. Attached is a link giving such details https://seawaves.com/bae-imabura-commissioned-in-talcahuano/
