A "Liberty Ship" built in 1943 at the Permanente Metals Corp.Richmond Yard No.2 at Richmond, California as the CHARLES E.DURYEA. Transferred to the Soviet Union shortly thereafter, the ship was renamed the OREL. She was again renamed the IVAN POLZUNOV in 1949. This was one of 2,710 Liberty cargo ships mass-produced during WW-II, literally faster than the enemy could sink them, without which the war could not have been won. Many were still in commercial service throughout the 1960s and at least four still exist today.
