Description:

If you take many and more photos of various ships, chances are you'll catch one sailing on the last fateful voyage.

Crabbing vessel "Cheongbo" is shown here in perfect weather, leaving Mokpo harbor to earn her bread. Judging by the amount of fresh water bottles stored in front of her bridge, it was supposed to be a lengthy trip.

She would capsize five days after this photo was taken, on February 4, 2023 around 23:19 off the island of Daebichi, after a water ingress in her engine room. The crew was able to send a distress signal, and 3 of them were saved by the passing vessel "Kwangyang Frontier". Sadly, 9 of her crew died, despite the South Korean authorities carrying out a massive search and rescue operation.

I've missed the story in the news back then. I have not even included the name of this vessel in my usual list of photos to be uploaded to marinetraffic.com (and maybe to this site), as I could not find her MMSI number. I just happened to be reviewing the folder with photos I took a year ago, and decided to enter her name in the search engine, the result being links with stories about a capsized fishing boat, the photos of the casualty (she was salvaged soon after the incident) showing this particular vessel.
