A short history of m/v KOPALNIA MOSZCZENICA ;
NEOLIBERTY type bulk carrier (this is how it was classified by the shipowner), built in the Danish shipyard NAKSKOV Skibsvaerft for PZM (POLSTEAM), construction number 182. The keel was laid on May 12, 1967, and the launch took place on March 7, 1968. The construction was completed on August 23 of the same year. A week later, the ceremonial raising of the Polish flag took place (Szczecin). The ship was intended for short- and medium-range tramping. In August 1971, the ship rescued survivors from the Italian ship LEDA, which sank near Venice (Adriatic Sea). During a class renovation at the dock in SZCZECIN (JANUARY 1979), the ship was very seriously damaged. As a result of very low temperatures, among other things, the keel cracked. On June 9, 1982, the ship was handed over to the newly established company ZEGLUGA POLSKA. Sold and handed over in Ravenna (December 21, 1992), the ship changed its name to FLORIANA and its flag to Maltese. From 1996 he sailed under the flag of St.Vincent & The Grenadines.
Scrapped - Gadani Beach in July 1998.
When presenting this ship, it is worth noting that it was one of several ships of this series ordered in Nakskov by PZM.
At the same time, this shipyard was building several (so-called) express ships for PLO (Polish Ocean Lines). This proved good relations between Polish shipowners and Danish builders.
Ships built in Nakskov and other Scandinavian shipyards have gained a very good reputation among Polish shipowners and sailors.
