In my view, if a navy ship especially a carrier is de-commissioned it must have something to do with a Civil Servant!! after all, R05 belonged to the British taxpayers and should therefore continue to serve them in some way, and HMPrison Eagle would have had a nice ring to it because the galley is there and the power plant is there enough room for a control room, and live in warder accommodation and an exercise yard on the flight deck, all it needed was filling with cells and cementing into a permanent land locked dock :-)

I never understood why the British got rid of this ship and the Ark Royal instead of installing ski-jumps on their bows and operating Harriers off of them. The Royal Navy easily could have gotten many more years of useful service out of them. They were a perfect example of the notion of being "penny-wise and pound-foolish".
