Description:

The 1936 Clydebank built Queen Mary Class Ocean Liner QUEEN MARY of the City of Long Beach, seen moored as a hotel and museum in Long Beach, United States on July 1st, 2023.

Originally constructed for Cunard-White Star Line, her checkered carrier included winning the Blue Ribband in 1936, operating as a Troopship in World War II from 1940 to 1945, and the infamous ramming of the HMS Curacoa (D41) in half in 1942. Returning to passenger service in 1947, she was transferred to Cunard Line in 1949, and was retired in 1967. Purchased by the City of Long Beach, she was opened as a floating hotel and museum in 1971, following a lengthy conversion that involved the removal of her original funnels, boilers, and some of her lifeboats. The vessel has been managed and operated by various different companies over the years, but the City itself took back control in 2021. This image shows that her lifeboats have been removed, which happened in 2022.

Sister Ship: QUEEN ELIZABETH (IMO 5287902)

This image also shows the closed and decaying 1971 Leningrad built Soviet Submarine B-427 and the 2019 Marghera Built CARNIVAL PANORAMA (IMO 9802384) of Carnival Cruise Line.

Sad to see her without her lifeboats now. Last visited her in 2014

Indeed sad to see her without lifeboats, though I believe they were all replicas. Personally I'm bugged by her funnels being not the proper Cunard orange-red but they're losses we will have to learn to live with.
