Description:
Bahamas-flagged SCANDINAVIAN STAR is here seen on the Tampa Bay in March 1986. She was offering one day excursions out in the Gulf of Mexico, where people could spend their money on gaming and casinos. This vessel was built 1971 by Dubigeon - Normandie, Nantes, for French owners.
Her history:
1971: Delivered as MASSALIA (France)
1984: STENA BALTICA (Sweden)
1984: ISLAND FIESTA (Bahamas)
1984: SCANDINAVIAN STAR (Bahamas)
7/4-1990: Caught fire in the Skagerrak on a voyage from Oslo to Frederikshavn with 383 passengers and a crew of 99. Fire broke out in different places at the same time. Towed into Lysekil, where fire was extinguished. Then 158 people had lost their lives.
Vessel was towed from Lysekil to U.K. for repair, but instead she spent the next years laid up in Southampton, with her name shortened to CANDI.
1994: Sold to Bahamas flag owners and towed to La Spezia for reparation. Put back in service as REGAL VOYAGER.
2/2004: Sold to Indian breakers. Registered in Mongolia as REGAL V for her last voyage to the breakers.
14/5-2004: Arrived at Alang.
