Description:

The 1971 Emden built Cruise Ship ISLAND PRINCESS (ex ISLAND VENTURE) of Princess Cruises seen at an unknown location sometime between 1977 and 1984.

Originally built as ISLAND VENTURE for Flagship Cruises (having been launched as ISLAND PRINCESS in 1971, according to the Miramar Ship Index), she was sold out of the fleet in 1974 to P&O Line and renamed ISLAND PRINCESS, She went under the full Princess Cruises Livery by 1977, and was notable for being a frequent stand in for the PACIFIC PRINCESS (ex SEA VENTURE) in the TV Series "The Love Boat". Sold out of the P&O Fleet in 1999, she further operated as HYUNDAI PUNGAK, spent some time laid up as PLATINUM, and then served as DISCOVERY.

After a brief stint under charter from Fiducia Shipping Co. SA to Cruise & Maritime Voyages from 2013 to 2014, she was renamed AMEN in October of 2014 and arrived at Alang, India to be beached and scrapped by GK Steel Shipbreakers on December 2nd, 2014. She was beached on December 8th, and was history by August of 2015.

Sister Ship: SEA VENTURE (IMO 7018563)

I do not believe that she ever actually operated under the name Platinum. I saw her in Malta with that name but I think it was a 'holding name' before becoming Discovery.

You are likely correct Clive, post updated.
