Description:

Telephoto view of the Pochard in Lock 6 of the Welland Canal as it has filled and the gates opened. It is just a matter of a few yards to the entrance to Lock 7. The Pochard is a Canadian Forest Navigation, or CanForNav charter as are all of their ships. Any shipping company that frequents North America's Great Lakes and names all of its ships after species of ducks cannot be all that bad! Indeed, CanForNav is one of my favorite fleets.
In southern Ontario, Canada on July 13, 2007 after an all night drive from northern Vermont, the highlight of which as the early morning rush hour traffic in Toronto. That is one big city!

It's rare for them to hit anything on the way in a lock. but they sure can scrape the lock walls on their way in. once a vessel scrape over 3/4 of her length entering lock 3 upbound.

Thanks for your comment! A lot of those bulkers have all sorts of scrapes and scratches! It is a really tight fit. They just inch themselves in.

Cool shot! I love it. Nice looking bulker.
Its amazing how they can get this big bulker into that small canal without hitting anything.
